Every year we hear from donors who are having trouble claiming their tax credit because of issues with their tax software. The most recent issue we have heard about is one of the more popular tax software programs asking for an “alpha numeric” entry. Since our certification numbers don’t include any letters, the taxpayers were stumped. The solution? Remove the hyphens and the error message goes away. In fact, the DOR’s instructions for the IN-OCC (the tax form that the certification numbers are entered on) say to omit the hyphens when filling out the form. Did you know that we have a place on our website dedicated to helping taxpayers fill out the forms correctly so that there are fewer errors when claiming the credit? Visit our Claiming Your 2018 Credit page to learn more! And if you or your donors have a question, call us. The DOR has been extremely helpful with getting any issues resolved quickly!
